Planes, Trains, Automobiles
By Airplane
Ithaca:
Ithaca has a small airport that is served
primarily by US Airways. Fares to Ithaca
tend to be expensive, but are highly
variable, so sometimes a good deal can be
found. Rental cars are available at the
airport.
Syracuse:
More flights are available into Syracuse
airport, which is slightly more than an
hour's drive to Ithaca. From the airport, take
I-81 South to Exit 12. Follow signs for Route
281. Turn left on to Route 281. Continue
straight as Route 281 merges into Route 13.
Follow Route 13 to Ithaca - follow directions
to specific hotels below.
New York City:
Flights to New York City can be easier to
come by. Rental cars are available from
there, but there will be plenty of other people
traveling from New York City to Ithaca that
weekend. Email us if you would like us to put
you in touch with someone who can give you
a ride.
By Car:
From Washington, DC
Take the Beltway to I-270 North (Maryland
Exit 38 or 34). Take I-270 until it ends, and
continue on US-15. If you are from Virginia,
avoid the urge to make a charge at Round
Top as you pass through Gettysburg. Take
the exit for the Harrisburg Expressway
(Route 581) towards Hershey/Harrisburg.
Continue as this become I-83 North. Take
Exit 51B on to I-81 North. Stay on I-81 until
you are in New York State, then take Exit 8.
Follow Signs to Route 79 West - these will be a
right at the end of the exit ramp, followed by
a left at the end of that road. Stay on 79 until
reaching Ithaca - follow directions to specific
hotels below.
From Rochester:
Take I-90 East to Exit 41 (Route 414). Make a
right, then the first left on to Route 318.
After about 4 miles, make a right on to Route
89. Follow Route 89 to Ithaca - follow
directions to specific hotels below.
To Hotels:
Hilton Garden Inn:
From New York/DC - Stay on Route 79 into
Dowtown Ithaca. Shortly after the road
becomes one-way, there will be a large ugly
parking garage on the right, which you may
park in for the hotel. The hotel is one block
past the garage.
From Rochester/Syracuse - Follow signs to
Route 79 East. After passing the Ithaca
Public Library on your right, stay left, and
follow signs for Route 79 West (really). After
rejoining 79 West, there will be a large ugly
parking garage on the right, which you may
park in for the hotel. The hotel is one block
past the garage.
Courtyard Mariott:
From New York/DC - From Route 79, make a
right at Pine Tree Road - there will be a
flashing yellow signal. When this road ends,
make a right onto Route 366. Make a left at
the first 4-way intersection on to Caldwell
Road (this will be just after you pass the
orchard store on your right). Make the first
right after the one lane bridge onto Warren
Road. Make the first right after crossing
Route 13.
From Rochester - At the end of Route 89, turn
left onto Route 13 North. Make the first left
after the exit for the mall, onto Warren Road.
Make the first right to the hotel.
From Syracuse - From Route 13, turn right
onto Warren Rd, which will be the first right
after the Ithaca airport. Make the first right
to the hotel.
By Train:
Although Ithaca no longer sees regular
passenger service, if you are coming from
rural Pennsylvania, hopping a northbound
freight just might be the option for you.
Running on semi-regular tri-weekly
schedules, coal trains travel directly through
downtown Ithaca on their way to the
Milliken power station farther up Cayuga
Lake. For more information on this option,
just ask.

Harry: You take someone to the airport, its
clearly the beginning of the relationship. That's
why I have never taken anyone to the airport
at the beginning of a relationship.
Sally: Why?
Harry: Because eventually things move on and
you don't take someone to the airport and I
never wanted anyone to say to me, How come
you never take me to the airport anymore?

split. Take Exit 8 off I-81. Follow Signs to Route

are in New York State, then take Exit 8. Follow

the end of that road. Stay on 79 until reaching
Ithaca - follow directions to specific hotels below.

From New York/DC - From Route 79, make a
right at Pine Tree Road - there will be a flashing
yellow signal. When this road ends, make a
right onto Route 366. Make a left at the first
4-way intersection on to Caldwell Road (this
will be just after you pass the orchard store on
your right). Make the first right after the one
lane bridge onto Warren Road. After passing the
Cornell golf course on your right, and the
Country Club of Ithaca on your left, make the
second left onto Hanshaw Rd. After passing a
strip mall on your left, make a right onto
Triphammer Rd. The hotel will be on your
right, after about a mile.

left onto Route 13 North. Take the exit for
Triphammer Road. Make a right at the end of
the ramp; the hotel will be on your left.
